On hot summer days, few things feel better than a refreshing swim.
The public pools of Plan are open from July 1st to August 31st, but if you’d rather enjoy a wilder kind of bathing spot, Chistau is full of crystal-clear rivers and pools where children can splash, play and cool off — always under supervision, of course.
The Cinca River near the village of Salinas, and the Cinqueta between Plan and San Juan de Plan,are two perfect places to explore in search of the ultimate natural pool.
Chistau is full of short and accessible walks through meadows and forests, or linking its villages together — perfect for exploring with children.
Here are some of them:
El camino de la Usera, desde el Puen Pecadó: A gentle linear path with interpretive panels about the trees and plant life of the area.
The Hermitages Route, in Tella: An easy circular walk with very little elevation gain, connecting three Romanesque hermitages with stunning views towards Monte Perdido.
Ibón de Plan / Basa de la Mora from Lavasar.: Probably the valley’s most popular easy hike — and for good reason. The setting is spectacular, as is the 45-minute forest track (5€ fee per vehicle) that begins in Saravillo and ends in Lavasar.
The Three Villages Circular RouteA circular walk starting in Plan and leading up to Chistén, before descending to San Chuan along the steep Trestallo path. The final connection between the last two villages follows the road for around 300 metres.
Two places that captivate children and adults alike.
The Cave Bear Cave, located at the gateway to Ordesa and Monte Perdido National Park, follows an adapted trail leading to the archaeological site where the remains of the cave bear — extinct for around 9,000 years — were discovered. A perfect mix of adventure and discovery.
Close to the cave, in the village of Tella itself, you’ll find the Witch Museum, located inside the old village schoolhouse. Here, ancient legends and traditions linked to witchcraft in the Pyrenees come to life. Far from being a frightening place, the museum offers a fascinating and educational journey into a world of magic, folklore and Pyrenean ancestors.
Although Chistau could easily be considered one huge natural playground in itself, there are also several green areas and playgrounds with swingsfor children in Serveto, Saravillo (next to the Mosén Bruno Museum), Plan (on the road towards San Chuan), San Chuan (at the El Regancho picnic area), Salinas (beside the Cinca River) and Chistén (next to the church).
The playground in San Chuan also has an outdoor five-a-side football pitch. In Lafortunada, you’ll find a sports area with padel courts, while Plan has an indoor sports hall with football goals and basketball hoops — the perfect backup plan for rainy days.
