Salinas and San Marcial

The gateway to the valley.

You are here

Salinas marks the entrance to the Chistau Valley, a small village located on the opposite bank of the Cinca River.

A short distance away, at the entrance to the Devotas Gorge, stands San Marcial: a traditional house attached to a small 11th-century Romanesque chapel. For centuries, this was a resting place along the old transhumance routes connecting the lowlands with the high mountain valleys.

The CIT Tourist Information Office

In Salinas, beside the A-138 road and next to the Mesón de Salinas, you’ll find the tourist office of the Bal de Chistau Tourism Initiative Centre (CIT).

It’s the perfect place to plan your visit to the valley.

The office is open during the summer months.

Don’t miss…

The Natural Pool in Salinas

Just beyond the village lies one of the loveliest swimming spots on the Cinca River. La Badina de Salinas is a beautiful waterfall and natural pool where you can enjoy a sunny swim until around 5pm.

The water is freezing cold — even in summer.

The 11th-century chapel

Inside Camping San Marcial, attached to the main house, stands this small Romanesque chapel.

According to local tradition, every new priest arriving in the village of Sin had to celebrate his very first mass here, as it was considered one of the oldest chapels in Sobrarbe.
