The Peña Artiés and Peña San Martín ridges separate this small side valley from the rest of Chistau. It is made up of the villages of Sin, Serveto and the now-abandoned Señes.
The road into La Comuna begins after the Saravillo junction, climbing along a winding mountain road known locally as “las leras”
Resting on the sunny side of the valley, the great stone houses of La Comuna stand as reminders of the area’s former importance and prosperity. Slender poplar trees frame the landscape, with magnificent views towards the Cotiella massif.
Sin Sin is the first village you’ll reach. Its network of narrow lanes has been lovingly restored in recent years, and a walk up to the square is essential. Here stands the Church of San Esteban de Sin, home to the recently restored crypt containing the mummified remains of Pedro Falceto — better known as “La Momia Tiburcio”.
Following the road towards Serveto, you’ll pass through the cluster of old houses that once formed the village of Señes, today the only abandoned village in the Chistau Valley.
At the very end of the paved road lies the peaceful and sunlit village of Serveto, one of the best places in the valley to admire the traditional architecture of this part of the Pyrenees and imagine a time when family homes were built almost like fortresses.
The 16th-century Church of San Esteban de Sin has a recently restored crypt where visitors can see the naturally mummified remains of Pedro Falceto, popularly known as “La Momia Tiburcio”.
An ancient route once used by the people of Chistau to reach La Comuna. The path crosses high above the Plandescún gorge, offering bird’s-eye views over the reservoir and the entrance to the upper valley.
The valley’s only abandoned village, where the effects of depopulation and the gradual abandonment of mountain villages can still be felt firsthand.

The forest track linking Serveto with Gistaín is ideal for exploring by 4x4 or mountain bike. It’s especially beautiful in the last light of the day — sunsets from here are unforgettable!
